Mechanism of Action ONDEYU-4 contains Ondansetron, a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking 5-HT3 receptors located both in the central nervous system (CNS) and in the peripheral nervous system, with primary activity in the gastrointestinal tract. During chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery, serotonin is released from enterochromaffin cells in the gut, triggering the vomiting reflex through vagal nerve stimulation and direct action on the brain's vomiting centre. By selectively blocking these receptors, Ondansetron prevents serotonin from initiating the nausea and vomiting response, providing effective and targeted antiemetic relief.
