YUDOXI-LB is a prescription combination of an antihistamine and Vitamin B6 indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women who do not respond to conservative management.
Category Name Anti-Biotics / Tetracycline Antibiotic with Probiotic
Common Indications YUDOXI-LB is indicated for the treatment of a broad range of bacterial and rickettsial infections caused by susceptible organisms, with concurrent probiotic support to maintain intestinal flora balance during antibiotic therapy. It is commonly prescribed for:
- Respiratory tract infections including community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, and atypical pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, and Legionella
- Sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis
- Rickettsial infections including Rocky Mountain spotted fever and typhus
- Urinary tract infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Skin and soft tissue infections including acne vulgaris requiring antibiotic therapy
- Lyme disease (early and late disseminated stages)
- Malaria prophylaxis and treatment in combination with other antimalarial agents
- Pelvic inflammatory disease caused by susceptible organisms
- Prevention and management of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea through concurrent probiotic supplementation
- Ophthalmic infections and periocular inflammatory conditions requiring systemic tetracycline therapy
Common Dosings One capsule (Doxycycline Hyclate 100 mg + Lactic Acid Bacillus 5 Million Spores) orally, once or twice daily — after food and with a full glass of water — or as directed by your physician. For most infections, a standard course of 7 to 14 days is typically prescribed. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve early. The dose and duration of therapy should be determined by the treating physician based on the type and severity of infection and clinical response. Do not self-adjust the dose or discontinue therapy without consulting your doctor.
Common Side Effects The following side effects may occur during the course of treatment. Consult your doctor if any of these persist or worsen:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- Decreased appetite
- Skin rash or red spots and bumps
- Photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to sunlight) — avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen during therapy
- Fast heart rate (tachycardia)
- Hypotension (low blood pressure) — rise slowly from a sitting or lying position
- Anaemia (low red blood cell count) — inform your doctor if you experience unusual fatigue, pallor, or shortness of breath
- Rarely, severe anaphylactic reactions characterised by facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or loss of consciousness — seek immediate emergency medical attention if these occur
- Oesophageal irritation or ulceration if tablet is not taken with sufficient water — always take with a full glass of water and remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking
- Signs of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea such as persistent watery or bloody stools — inform your doctor immediately
Common Interactions Inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking. Notable interactions include:
- Antacids (Aluminium, Magnesium, Calcium-Containing) / Iron Preparations / Calcium Supplements: May significantly reduce the absorption and bioavailability of Doxycycline by forming insoluble chelate complexes in the gastrointestinal tract — administer YUDOXI-LB at least 2 to 3 hours before or after these products
- Warfarin & Other Anticoagulants: Doxycycline may enhance the anticoagulant effect of Warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding — regular INR monitoring is strongly recommended during concurrent therapy
- Enzyme-Inducing Drugs (Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Barbiturates): May significantly accelerate the hepatic metabolism of Doxycycline, reducing its plasma concentration and therapeutic effectiveness — dose adjustment or increased monitoring of clinical response may be required
- Oral Contraceptives: Doxycycline may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal oral contraceptives — consider additional non-hormonal contraceptive methods during and for at least 7 days after completing the antibiotic course
- Retinoids (Isotretinoin, Acitretin): Concurrent use with Doxycycline may increase the risk of intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) — avoid combination use
- Live Bacterial Vaccines (Typhoid Vaccine): Doxycycline may reduce the effectiveness of live bacterial vaccines — vaccination should ideally be completed before or after the antibiotic course
- Lactic Acid Bacillus & Concurrent Antibiotic Use: Strong antibiotics may reduce probiotic effectiveness if taken simultaneously — it is advisable to separate administration by at least 2 hours where possible, as directed by your physician
Special Instructions
| Condition | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Pregnancy | Not recommended during pregnancy. Doxycycline may cause permanent discolouration of developing teeth, inhibit bone growth, and cause other serious foetal complications — particularly during the second and third trimesters. Strictly avoid unless under explicit medical direction. |
| Breastfeeding | Use with caution during lactation. Doxycycline may pass into breast milk and may affect the nursing infant's developing teeth and bones. Consult your doctor before use and consider a safer alternative during breastfeeding. |
| Alcohol | The safety of concurrent alcohol use has not been fully established. Alcohol may reduce the effectiveness of Doxycycline by increasing its metabolism and may worsen gastrointestinal side effects — it is advisable to avoid alcohol during the course of antibiotic therapy. |
| Driving & Machinery | It is not fully established whether Doxycycline alters the ability to drive. Exercise caution and avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness, visual disturbances, or any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react safely. |
| Liver Disease | Limited clinical data available in patients with hepatic impairment. Use with caution as Doxycycline is partially metabolised and excreted via the biliary system — regular liver function monitoring may be required. Consult your physician for individualised dosing guidance. |
| Kidney Disease | Generally considered safe to use in patients with renal impairment at recommended doses. Doxycycline is primarily excreted via the biliary route rather than the kidneys, making it a preferred tetracycline in renal insufficiency. Consult your physician for individualised guidance. |
Mechanism of Action YUDOXI-LB combines two active components, each working through a distinct and complementary mechanism to treat bacterial infection while protecting gut health:
Doxycycline Hyclate (100 mg): A broad-spectrum second-generation tetracycline antibiotic that exerts its bacteriostatic effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Doxycycline enters susceptible bacterial cells via active transport and reversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, specifically blocking the attachment of aminoacyl-transfer RNA (aminoacyl-tRNA) to the acceptor site of the ribosomal mRNA complex. This prevents the addition of new amino acids to the growing peptide chain, effectively arresting bacterial protein synthesis and preventing bacteria from producing the essential proteins required for their growth, replication, and survival. Doxycycline demonstrates a broad spectrum of bacteriostatic activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, atypical organisms (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Rickettsia), and certain protozoa. At high concentrations, it may also exert bactericidal activity against some organisms
Lactic Acid Bacillus — Lactobacillus (5 Million Spores): A beneficial live micro-organism (probiotic) that works by replenishing and restoring the natural balance of healthy intestinal flora disrupted by antibiotic therapy. Lactobacillus colonises the gut, competes with pathogenic organisms for nutrients and adhesion sites on the intestinal mucosa, produces lactic acid to maintain an acidic intestinal environment unfavourable to harmful bacteria, and supports the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier. These combined actions effectively prevent and reduce antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and gastrointestinal discomfort during the course of Doxycycline therapy, while simultaneously restoring the microbiome balance essential for digestive health and immune function
Together, Doxycycline and Lactic Acid Bacillus provide a comprehensive therapeutic approach — eliminating the bacterial infection while simultaneously protecting and restoring gut microbiome health throughout the antibiotic course.
Instructions to Take
- Take this capsule exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Always take after food and with a full glass of water (at least 200 ml) to minimise the risk of oesophageal irritation and gastrointestinal discomfort
- Remain upright (sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes after taking this capsule — do not lie down immediately after taking to prevent oesophageal ulceration
- Do not take simultaneously with antacids, calcium supplements, iron preparations, or dairy products — maintain a gap of at least 2 to 3 hours to ensure optimal drug absorption
- Complete the full prescribed course of antibiotics — do not stop early even if you feel better, as incomplete treatment may lead to antibiotic resistance or recurrence of infection
- Where multiple antibiotics are prescribed concurrently, take the probiotic component at least 2 hours apart from other antibiotics for optimal probiotic effectiveness
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure during therapy — apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and wear protective clothing when outdoors, as Doxycycline may increase photosensitivity
- Inform your doctor if you are taking oral contraceptives and consider additional non-hormonal contraception during therapy
- Do not self-medicate, adjust the dose, or share this medication with others
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember — however, skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
- Avoid alcohol during the course of treatment
- Ensure adequate hydration throughout therapy
- Keep out of reach of children
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Check packaging label for specific storage requirements for the probiotic component
